“For from days of old they have not heard or perceived by ear, Nor has the eye seen a God besides You, Who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him.” Isa 64:4
In case you didn’t notice that is Jake. He is my boy. He is truly an amazing dog. The picture has more significance than just a picture of the coolest dog ever. Believe it or not there is a purpose. Two or three weeks ago at Doggie school (go ahead and get your laughs out) we learned a new command beyond sit or stay. This command is is wait. The difference between stay and wait is that you return to the dog after saying “stay” versus the “wait” means the dog comes to you. So for this picture I had Jake sit and wait. The way it really works is that he sits, I tell him to wait for as long as I can wait (60 seconds tops) and then I tell him to come. On the other end of a good “wait” is a treat. Just like his owner (and I don’t mean Katie) Jake has a major waiting problem. Jake is the most energetic and A.D.D. dog I have ever met. To make him sit and wait for 15 seconds is quite the task. Even worse to sit the treat on the ground and try and get him to
wait after that treat is laying there in the open is even harder.
Lately I fill like I’m in a waiting position. Just sitting here waiting. I know God has amazing plans (Jer 29:11 see Chris’ note) me and there is a “treat” at the end. The hard part is the waiting. I just wanna run. I just wanna play. I just want the treat. Right now I cant have it. I have to wait. God is sitting there telling me the same words as Jake “wait, wait, wait!” God desires us to wait. Waiting means we trust him. Waiting means we trust His timing is better than our own judgement.
Waiting is also reminding myself to enjoy this moment. I could get antsy and only think about the summer C term of next fall and totally miss what God has for me in this moment. My prayer for all of us today is that we live life for today. We live our life as missionaries wherever we are today. If God says wait here, we wait. Wait, wait, wait really means trust, trust, trust!
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isa 55:8-10
Praying for ya!
Michael
