“I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. Matthew 21:31-32
As I came across this chunk of scripture I was reminded of the reality that Heaven will look different that I may have in my mind. I think there is a scary reality that there will be some people that are not there that I wonder where they are while I will see some who in my shallow sinful judgment I would have never thought would be in heaven. When Jesus reminds me through this text that sinners like tax collectors and prostitutes will be in heaven often times my self righteousness doesn’t think that is fair and questions God but I am reminded in these moments of how great of a sinner I still am and that my self righteousness is just as nasty of a sin as the prostitute on the corner. We all need the same savior and the cross is sufficient for all of us. Just thinking about this now gets me a little excited to see who all ends up in Heaven and the amazing testimonies of transformation and grace beyond my wildest imagination will be so evident.
I have been just stuck on this lately from 1 John 3.
” 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. 20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. ” 1 John 3 NKJV
I have been esp. stuck on 20 and 21.
What a thought, there are many up us that our own hearts condemn us and we think that we may never be pleasing in His sight, yet God is greater than our hearts. Then we don’t fall into that category, His bestows confidence upon us. Pointed!
